Our provision for 3 and 4 year olds
Big School is the name we have always used for our nursery school provision for 3- and 4-year-old children. As Wingate has grown to include 2-year-olds, Big School now provides the next stage of the Wingate journey. Here, children build on everything they have experienced in Small School through an ambitious, creative and deeply engaging curriculum, developing the confidence, curiosity, independence and skills they need for the next stage of their lives.
Our provision for 3 and 4-year-olds is ambitious, inspiring and designed to ensure every child flourishes. Through a creative curriculum, exceptional learning environments and highly skilled practitioners, children are supported to become confident, capable and curious learners. We place importance on developing communication, independence, creativity, critical thinking and a lifelong love of learning, while ensuring that every child feels valued, challenged and supported. Children thrive through regular access to our diverse outdoor learning environments, including our Nature School (the Cottage in the woods) and Allotment. We are uniquely placed to know every child exceptionally well, with an overall aim not only to prepare children for their transition to primary education, but to provide an exceptional early years experience that nurtures confident, independent learners and lays the foundations for future success.

​The official day in Small School runs from 8.30am - 3.15pm for children who are in all day. However, for those who only access a morning or afternoon session, the times are 8.30 - 11.30, or 12.15 - 3.15pm. We have a breakfast club that starts at 8.00am and a tea club that runs from 3.15 - 4.00pm. Wrap around is available from 4-6pm, but this is maaged by Wingate Childcare - not the school.
Children are brought to school and collected via the main reception doors, where families are greeted and welcomed by the headteacher or admin.
