how we evaluate the effectiveness

of our SEN provision

How do we assess and review progress?

We carry out formal assessments on a termly basis to measure all children's progress and help identify the next steps in their learning. This is no different for children with SEND. On the whole, early years educators and SEN support staff use Birth to 5 Matters to track children’s progress and report this on the 'Famly' app. All assessments and observations are shared with parents and carers via the app, and are invited to contribute to their child’s learning journal at any time. We offer an open door policy where Parents/carers can speak to staff at any time and also more formally at termly parent consultation meetings.

We continuously ensure the provision has a positive impact on the outcomes for all of our children. We do this in a variety of ways, including:

  • robust evaluation of policy and practice through analysis of individual progress

  • SENCO and Governor monitoring each term

  • learning walks

  • learning Journal scrutinies

  • regular staff meetings

  • regular meetings with parents/carers

  • questionnaires and feedback from parents

  • discussions with external agencies eg EP, SALT
