Headteacher and senco

Becky Wood has been Headteacher of Wingate Community Nursery School since 2014. Becky came to Wingate in 1998 where she worked alongside Paddy Beels, previous Headteacher, in leading this outstanding nursery school. Visits to Denmark and Northern Italy have influenced their perspective in early years.

Becky was instrumental in establishing Wingate Early Years Training Base, which she leads with drive and passion. She has created films, training packages and documentation based around children’s learning and the Wingate philosophy, aimed at supporting colleagues in exploring early years teaching and learning.

Becky is SENCO, Designated Safeguarding and Child Protection Lead and Designated teacher for Children Looked After.

Deputy Headteacher

Nichola joined the Wingate team in January 2018, working alongside Becky to lead the school team. She is particularly passionate about children learning outdoors and currently oversees the learning at our two outdoor sites, the Allotment and the Cottage’.

Nichola is currently based at the Allotment and leads the learning for groups of children who spend one full week there, alongside their key person. When Nichola is based at the Cottage, the children spend several weeks there. We call this their 'residential'.

Nichola is also a Designated Safeguarding and Child Protection Lead.

Nature School Lead at the Cottage

Adele Chapman has grown at Wingate, from a nursery child in 1989-90, to a student, and now a valued member of the team, first employed in 2005. Adele completed a Foundation Degree in 2012 - BA Honours, and is also a qualified Forest School Leader. Adele has been the key person for the red group for the past 17 years, but progressed to the role of a Nature School Lead, alongside Nichola at both of our outdoor sites.

Adele is in the process of gaining Qualified Teacher Status through eQualitas.

Early Years Educator

Ange joined our team in autumn 2014 and soon became a much loved key person for yellow group. As a military wife,  Ange has worked internationally in Early Years since qualifying.  She loves all animals, taking our chickens and guinea pig under her wing. Ange has a passion for working outdoors and is committed to helping children and families to 'do their bit' towards saving the planet.

Sophie came to us on supply, supporting children with additional needs. She was very much part of the family, fitting in well with the team and so a year down the line, we offered her a contract to become a fully fledged early years educator in 2023.  She is the key person for the red group and is loving her new role!

Hannah joined the school team in September 2023, having been our onsite Childcare Manager for several years. She comes to us with lots of experience of younger learners and enhances the team beautifully. She is really enjoying working with slightly older children in school and brings special qualities to the team.
