Our new provision for 2 year olds
Small School is where our 2-year-olds begin their Wingate journey. When we brought our 2-year-old provision under the Wingate Community Nursery School umbrella, we introduced the name Small School to reflect this new chapter in our story. It is a warm, nurturing environment where our youngest children build relationships, develop independence and confidence, and begin to discover the joy of learning through play, exploration and real experiences.
Our two-year-olds thrive within ‘Small School’, a carefully designed environment that supports growing independence, curiosity and confidence. The space has been thoughtfully created to meet the needs of young children, offering a balance of nurturing care and exciting opportunities for exploration. Children have access to rich indoor and outdoor learning environments, where they can investigate, create, move, build, imagine and develop their emerging social skills through meaningful play.

As children grow in confidence, they also spend time in both ‘Big School’ and our ‘Nature School’, alongside 3–4 year-olds. These experiences provide valuable opportunities to build relationships with older children, explore a wider range of environments and develop a strong sense of belonging across our school community.

The official day in Small School runs from 8.30am - 3.15pm for children who are in all day. However, for those who only access a morning or afternoon session, the times are 8.30 - 11.30, or 12.15 - 3.15pm. We have a breakfast club that starts at 8.00am and a tea club that runs from 3.15 - 4.00pm. Wrap around is available from 4-6pm, but this is maaged by Wingate Childcare - not the school.
Children are brought to school and collected via the main reception doors, where families are greeted and welcomed by the headteacher or admin.
